Some Florida residents become "Do-It-Yourself Roofers".

Because of the long wait for contractors, residents are going to home improvement stores for the roofing supplies themselves. Hurricane Wilma has caused additional roof damage which much has just recently been repaired from previous Florida Hurricanes.

 "I'm going to get up on the roof and fix it myself," Ehrenman said Wednesday at Bradco Supply in Fort Lauderdale, where hundreds of homeowners have been lining up to buy roofing tiles since Monday. "I don't want to wait. I can do it now and my home will be the best-looking in my neighborhood." ...

While those wanting an entire roof replaced still face record waits, prices and shortages, three major South Florida tile manufacturers -- Hanson Roofing Tiles, Monier Lifetile and Entegra -- are working with local suppliers to sell limited amounts directly to consumers.  Read more: Florida roofing supplies sold direct to homeowners

With tile manufactures and supply stores suggesting that if it is not leaking that it would be better to wait and let others with greater need get the roofing products that are in short supply.
