Home Depot Donates to Hurricane Communities

ATLANTA, Nov. 1 /CNW/ -- The Home Depot(R), the world's largest home improvement retailer, today continued the second phase of its hurricane response by announcing an additional $3.25 million donation to individuals and communities affected by the 2005 hurricane season. The new funds will assist in the immediate recovery efforts following Hurricane Wilma as well as the rebuilding needs for the communities that have been affected by all three major storms. With this contribution, The Home Depot - along with The Home Depot Foundation, The Homer Fund and its suppliers - has now committed more than $9 million in cash and materials to this year's hurricane relief, recovery and rebuilding efforts.

"Hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Wilma have had an enormous impact on our associates, our communities and our customers," said Bob Nardelli, chairman, president & CEO of The Home Depot. "We have a responsibility to play an integral role throughout the recovery process, and our support will not only help with the immediate relief efforts but also in the long-term rebuilding efforts within these communities."

With this contribution, The Home Depot will donate $1 million to The Homer Fund, an emergency assistance fund for The Home Depot's own associates who encounter hardship, to provide associates impacted by this year's hurricanes with emergency grants for safe housing, food and clothing.

A donation of $250,000 will support Mexico's relief and recovery efforts following Hurricane Wilma. Of this amount, $100,000 will go to the Mexican Red Cross for immediate relief materials, tools and products needed for cleanup and recovery; $100,000 will be granted to the United Way of Mexico (Fondo Unido) to support nonprofits that provide health and human services throughout the impacted region and $50,000 will be directed to the National System for Integral Family Development (Sistema Nacional para el Desarrollo Integral de la Familia), known as DIF, a government-sponsored charity providing social services support to families and children impacted by the storm.  -- Read More: Home Depot Hurricane Donation
