Planning for DIY
This has always been my failing when it comes to home improvements - I'm far to eager to get started and it has cost me my pride in the past. Not just in shelves that are wonky, floors that are uneven, or damaged carpets, windows or walls either. On one notable occasion I was lying happily in the bath one afternoon when i remembered where I'd left a stip light bulb which i could use to replace one by the side of my bed. Did I sit and ponder? Did I take a mental note of this and do it later? No, I dived straight out of the bath grabbed the strip light bulb and proceeded to install. Now if I had taken the time to consider the nature of the task it might have entered my head that water and electricity do not mix. No damage done luckily, the volts shot up my arm for a second and them threw me back. The lesson is, however small the job always stand back from it and consider what you are doing first. If you just dive in there, not only does the probability of things going wrong increase, you might end up in A & E looking like an even bigger plonker than yours truly.
