Lowe's Home Improvement Launches Online Store
Lowe's beats Home Depot as the first Home Improvement Superstore to sell online.
"Taking the time to do it right was also the goal for Lowe's, which repeatedly missed its targeted launch dates for its e-marketplace.

Lowe's Opens Superstore in North Windham, ME
Lowe’s will open the doors to the public at its newest location in North Windham on January 20.
The superstore has 116,000 square feet of retail sales space, with an adjacent garden center, stocking 40,000 different items to help customers build, improve and beautify their homes. A store of this size represents an average investment for the company of $18.5 million and creates up to 175 new jobs.

Home Improvement Spending UpU.S. consumers planned to spend an average of $628 on improving their house this holiday season, up 84 percent from the $341 they said they would spend in 2003 at this time. That means, of the total $2,348 consumers say they will spend this season, the biggest portion will go to the home, with 27 percent going to home improvements, while 26 percent will go to gifts, 17 percent to socializing, 12 percent to charity, 9 percent to entertaining at home, 7 percent to nongift clothing, and 2 percent to holiday-specific furnishings, according to the Deloitte survey of 17,440 consumers.
